  • The way Field Fisher Waterhouse have spun this story makes them look in demand. They've so many options that they can pick and choose the best deal.

Bond Pearce / Dickinson Dees should take note.

  • It's a real hatchet job on Lawrence Graham though.

  • If they had any guts and vision the firms would do a four-way merger.

The market is heading in only one direction and there is no advantage to be gained from delaying participation in an inevitable consolidation process.

  • How interesting that Matthew Lohn is on extended leave, his arch rival Michael Chissick (whom he defeated for the MP role) is suddenly at the helm and TMT is now "the jewel in the crown" in new merger talks.

This bears all the hallmarks of a palace coup and a firm in a state of civil war.

  • Spot on, The OC.

  • I would have thought OC would be much better suited to one of their regional competitors like Thring Salmon or Bevan Wilmot. I do find all this FFW nonsense quite amusing... they are the Cheryl Cole of the legal world, always trying to get into the "spotted" section of Heat/Lawyer on the back on some spurious office/client broom cupboard they have managed to secure near to Silicon Valley.

I hope OK magazine do a Jordan/Peter style spread with Chissick arriving in a big horse drawn carriage and Beswick covered in day-glo fake tan. Would be amaze.

  • Isn't it a bit hyperbolic to describe this as a "bid for City dominance"?

I cant see Slaughter and May or Freshfields being too concerned about FFW merging with OC.

  • That certainly is a hatchet job on LG!

  • BPD LLP (the Cut & Shut of Dickie Dees and Bond Pearce) will be top 40. Do you think they're already in discussions to merge again?

I think it would be a clever move. Although I can't imagine either would have turned down a merger with Lawrence Graham.

  • Good grief. Goodness only knows how FFW are managing to spin this into a mighty success story. Let's just take the facts from the article

    No HR director,
    No managing partner.
    Declining PEP.
    Flat revenues.
    Failed merger talks with LG.

Now I am trying to join those dots... and of course, one can interpolate immediately to "City dominance".

  • FFW in talks with three top 40 firms? Anyone worked out who the other two might be?

  • As to FFW, does the term shop-worn come to mind? If I were a FFW partner, I'd be short selling my partnership interest right now.

  • What's so bad about FFW?
