Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) has beaten public sector rival DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary in a beauty parade for the role advising the Government on setting up the Commission for Equality and Human Rights.
Former head of procurement in the Treasury Solicitor's Department David Gollancz will lead the FFW team. He said: "We understand that what they're most concerned about is delivery of policy. That's their bottom line."
The new Commission for Equality and Human Rights will absorb the functions of the Disability Rights Commission, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Commission for Racial Equality.
It will be responsible for ensuring all public departments conform to the 2006 Equality Act. This means government suppliers could be under greater pressure to encourage diversity in the workplace.
Gollancz said FFW would not expand its team to take on the new work.
