Ferry insurance qualification

The rights of insurers to side-step claims tot-alling US$1.8m, in respect of operational damage after a main bearing failed on a car ferry, will be scrutinised in the High Court. In a case which will centre on the definition of an "accident" under marine insurance policy terms, the Black Sea and Baltic General Insurance Co is being sued by the Oviedo Shipping Company of Limassol, Cyprus. Of key importance will be whether failure of an engine bearing, which led to extensive engine damage, should be classed as an "accident". Watson, Farley & Williams is representing Oviedo.
