Farrers partner heads for News Group

Farrer & Co partner Benjamin Beabey has left the firm and is understood to be joining News Group Newspapers.

The media specialist was a go-to litigator for the now-defunct News of the World (NoW) and its sister title The Sun in his 14 years with Farrers.

According to sources close to the newspaper giant, Beabey will work alongside The Sun’s legal manager Justin Walford.

“It’s not surprising they’re looking for a new lawyer and Ben knows them really well,” a source said. “He knows if they’ve got skeletons and where they are hidden.”

Beabey was part of the team acting for the NoW in defence of privacy claims brought by Automobile Federation (FIA) president Max Mosley.

“We’re grateful for Ben’s significant contribution to our media disputes team,” a Farrers spokesman said. We wish him all the best in his new role and career.”
