Farrer & Co is facing court action in France over its role acting for News Group Newspapers (NGN) in its 2008 battle with former FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) president Max Mosley.

Ben Beabey
Two members of the firm’s media group, partner Ben Beabey and consultant and ex-senior partner Robert Clinton, are understood to have appeared before a judge in France earlier this month, with the firm still waiting to hear whether further action will be taken.
Dispute group partner Adrian Parkhouse, who is handling the case for Farrers, said: “The firm is a party under investigation in respect of an alleged breach of French privacy law arising from our sending a copy of published News of the World articles to the president of the senate of the FIA.”
In separate cases relating to 2008’s Mosley litigation, NGN has been indicted for violation of privacy and defamation, while News of the World journalist Neville Thurlbeck has been indicted for defamation.

All law firms should abide by the rule of law and be held to the strictest account if they fail to do so.
Perhaps Farrers thought they were dealing with the situation in the UK where spineless politicians have allowed the the editor of the News of the World, god help us, to sit in judgement on allegations of invasion of privacy on the PCC.
