Minneapolis-based Faegre & Benson is merging with local German law firm Brendel Ekkenga Daniel & Partner to expand its office in Frankfurt.
The Frankfurt office was opened in 1991 and will now operate under the name Faegre Benson Brendel.
Intellectual property (IP) and IT partner Horst Daniel, employment partner Thomas Drosdeck, commercial partner Thomas Hopf, M&A partner Detlef Koch, litigation partner Marcel Wessig and commercial lawyer Caroline Schewe joined Faegre's two Frankfurt partners on 1 March.
Faegre is unusual in the German market because its focus is not on capital markets. Its purpose in Frankfurt is to serve US clients handling product distributions or joint ventures in Germany. Brendel, still a young firm, focuses on M&A, IP and IT, but it also handles employment and company law and some litigation work.
Faegre operates as a joint venture with City firm Hobson Audley in the UK.
