McGrigors has done away with the dual senior partner role, naming erstwhile Scotland senior partner Kirk Murdoch as the sole holder of the post.
Until now Murdoch has had responsibility for Scotland, while London-based real estate partner Philip Burroughs has been senior partner for the firm’s City practice.
With the firm expanding its Manchester and Northern Ireland practices, however, it has decided to appoint Murdoch as firmwide senior partner. He will serve a three-year term beginning on 1 October.
“McGrigors has matured into a national law firm with offices in Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Manchester, and I’m delighted to be taking on this role to help deliver the maximum benefit to our clients around the country,” Murdoch said.
Burroughs will return to full-time fee-earning.
The move comes after Dundas & Wilson also decided to have one firmwide managing partner.
Donald Shaw and Alan Campbell, based in London and Scotland respectively, were co-managing partners until May, when Shaw was named as sole firmwide managing partner.
