Bill Braithwaite QC is the head of chambers, Tom Handley is the director of chambers, and Nick Buckley and Ian Spencer are the senior clerks. Two of the chambers’ senior silks are leading practitioners in the set’s personal injury practice. Head of chambers Bill Braithwaite has represented more than 1,000 catastrophic injury cases. He has particular expertise in brain and spinal injuries. William Waldron QC also specialises in brain and spinal injuries, and has extensive experience in amputee cases. Senior junior Simon Earlam is among the most experienced personal injury barristers on the northern circuit.

Mark Cawson QC and Edward Bartley Jones QC feature prominently in any analysis of the set’s commercial practice. They enjoy a strong presence as commercial litigators while a significant percentage of Mark Cawson’s work involves property and insolvency. Among the most senior silks at Exchange Chambers Anthony Elleray QC is an ADR Group Accredited Mediator who has appeared in every level of court.

Exchange Chambers barristers have been involved in several major cases. William Waldron QC has, in quick succession, secured two successes for serious cases of brain injury. The first involving the Motor Insurers’ Bureau while the second secured £2.88m in damages for a man who suffered a brain injury.
