Ex Resolution legal boss joins commodities giant ENRC as GC

Ex Resolution legal boss joins commodities giant ENRC as GCFormer Resolution legal chief Randal Barker has joined Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) as general counsel and company secretary.

As revealed by The Lawyer (1 September), Barker left Resolution following its takeover by Pearl Group.

At ENRC Barker replaces Paul Waters, who has left the company. It is not known where Waters has moved on to.

Barker, who joined life fund consolidator Resolution as its first legal head in 2005, left the enlarged Pearl Group because the focus of the company’s legal work no longer related to the operations of a listed company.

Prior to joining Resolution, Barker set up the legal department at General Electric subsidiary Genworth Financial, which he joined from an of counsel role at Lovells. While at Genworth he worked on the company’s 2004 IPO.

Pearl’s pre-takeover legal head, Jamie McLeod, remains with the company, as does Barker’s deputy Phil Hagan. The company is currently recruiting an overall head of legal.

Clive Cowdery, who set up the original Resolution business, announced this week that he plans to IPO his new business, also called Resolution, in October. The focus of the new company is on buying up financial services companies.

As revealed on TheLawyer.com yesterday, Slaughter and May won the mandate to advise on the IPO with Herbert Smith acting for the financial advisors (12 September).
