Ex-Milbank tech head comes home

The head of New York firm Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy’s technology practice is rejoining the firm in the same role after more than a year as a venture capitalist.

John Halvey left law and became a dealmaker at one of his venture clients, Safeguard Scientific, in 1999, but was wooed back.
Frank Puleo, a member of Milbank’s executive committee, said: “John built [our technology practice] from scratch. He created a technology and outsourcing practice when outsourcing dealt primarily with the outsourcing of data processes and related technology. Over time, the same people in those businesses were the people who got involved on behalf of the same institutions in e-commerce, and John aggressively migrated into that business as well.”
Milbank opened its Silicon Valley office in the last few months, and while Halvey will be based in New York, he will be heavily involved in the growth of that practice.
