Sadly, it's all true - just did some research and seems English judges don't have gavels and have never had them. This is a very sad fact as I'd always thought BBC TV portrayals of judges hammering away and demanding 'Silence! Silence!' were totally accurate.

  • Talking of daylight robbery: 100-160K for an office manager? Where do I apply?

  • What is so depressing about these two idiots is what they did with the money. Give it to charity or a needy cause? Save it for a rainy day? Help out someone in trouble?
No, just bought themselves some over-priced consumer goods and a few unnecessary trinkets. I mean what on earth even IS a key holder?

  • I'm definitely changing careers to become an office manager. £160K!!! Is that a typo?

  • It is clearly pretty dumb for some firms to pay a NQ £100k (when something nearer £60k would be more than enough), but £160k for an office manager? You must be able to hire some top ones for no more than £100k surely? This ridiculously high salary seems more shocking than the thefts and makes HFW look like complete fools (especially when added to the poor DD in their hiring process).

  • I think the gist of the article is that such an overpaid position is not open to everyone and requires some extracuricular activities.

  • Disgraceful.

  • I believe there were forged signatures on expense forms in this case, which means that at least some internal controls were bypassed.
