Peter Nägele, former managing partner of Clifford Chance in Germany, is set to join the Frankfurt office of Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw in January next year.
Until the end of 2002 Nägele was co-managing partner for continental Europe and a member of the global executive group of Clifford Chance. He left the firm not long after he was defeated in the election for Germany managing partner by Hans-Josef Schneider.
At Clifford Chance, Nägele was client partner for Deutsche Telekom among others. His hire will beef up Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw's relatively slim presence in Germany.
Also joining MBRM in Germany is Friedrich Merz, former shadow finance minister.
Reinhart Lange, MBRM managing partner in Germany, commented: "Peter's wide ranging experience as an advisor to the business world will be of great value to our clients. Our aim is to become one of the best law firms in Germany."
