Leeds Building Society has installed Bradford & Bingley’s former legal chief as head of legal services.
Paul Jordan, who has 20 years’ experience in retail financial services and was head of legal at Bradford and Bingley for 10 years, takes over from Andrew Greenwood, who was acting as an interim head of legal services in addition to his role as general manager and secretary of the society.
Jordan, who left Bradford & Bingley in April, believes that his experience in the sector will provide “a sounding board for the regulatory changes that Leeds Building Society is going through,” he told The Lawyer.
Commenting on his appointment, Jordan added: “I hope that my 20 years’ experience in the sector will enable me to mentor the legal team and support the business.”
Mark Stevens, director of strategy at the Leeds Building Society, said: “Paul’s taking up a key role at the society and his wealth of experience within his area of expertise, built up within major financial organisations, will prove to be a great addition to the Society and an asset to our strong business moving forward.”
At the height of the financial crisis in September 2008 Bradford & Bingley’s retail banking division was taken over by Santander while the remainder of the business was taken into public ownership. The business still exists to service customers with existing mortgages and insurance policies.
Jordan began his career as an assistant solicitor at Leamington Spa Building Society, moving across to Bradford & Bingley in 1991 when it merged with his then employer. He headed the legal team for the past decade.
