Eversheds has been appointed by the Hinduja Group on international aspects of India’s Vizag power project and will work alongside local firm FoxMandal Little.
Initial contact with the client was made by the head of Eversheds’ India business group, Gauri Advani, and the firm subsequently won a beauty parade.
Head of project and infrastructure finance Jonathan Cripps is leading the team, which includes Advani, project finance partner Indraj Mangat, corporate partner Andrew Halper and construction ;partner Richard Ward.
The Vizag project has a projected capacity of 2,000MW – half the size of Drax, the UK’s largest power station – and will be built in the south east Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
At this early stage, environmental aspects of the project have yet to be finalised. But Mangat said: “We haven’t discussed whether it’s going to be clean coal – I imagine there’ll be an element of that.”
