Eversheds says improving north England’s transport infrastructure will be a challenge

Eversheds partner Alison Oldfield has commented on the proposal made by northern cities to chancellor George Osborne surrounding £15bn of transport improvements over the next 15 years.

She said that identifying the key priorities for improvements to the transport infrastructure is an important statement for cities of the north of England as the economy continues to improve and they push for growth.

Oldfield added: ‘Improving the region’s transport through investment to accommodate both existing and anticipated future levels of growth in demand will have its challenges. So too might determining the most appropriate structures to channel any investment, given the multiplicity of the parties involved.

‘The cities’ initiative does, however, serve to emphasise the increasingly widespread recognition of the potential economic impact of investment in transport infrastructure.’
