Eversheds retained by FA in Sven scandal

Eversheds’ employment partner Peter Norbury has emerged as the solicitor acting for the Football Association (FA) on its inquiry into the Sven-Göran Eriksson scandal.

Norbury will provide the evidence to be put before an emergency meeting of the FA board next Thursday (5 August).

The FA inquiry follows an erroneous statement released last week, and witnessed by regular FA advisers Addleshaw Goddard, that denied an affair between the English coach and FA employee Faria Alam.

Norbury’s advice on employment issues will be essential as speculation gathers on the futures of Alam, Eriksson and FA chief executive Mark Palios, with whom Alam also had a relationship.

The storm comes at a time when the FA is waiting for a new director of legal affairs. Jonathan Hall is joining from the Rugby Football Union in September, succeeding Nicholas Coward.
