Eversheds lures Hill Dickinson key man

Eversheds has poached the head of claims management from Hill Dickinson, its biggest competitor in the high-volume business.

Shaun Slack joins Eversheds after five years at Hill Dickinson. He joined the firm in 1999 to launch One Liability Services as a standalone claims management division.

At a time when firms such as Addleshaw Goddard and Hammonds are selling their volume businesses and DLA is accepting offers for its debt recovery arm, Eversheds has chosen to go head-to-head with the firm it considers its biggest rival.

Slack has built up a business that contributes an estimated 10 per cent, or £4m, to Hill Dickinson’s total revenues. The two firms share many clients.

Eversheds’ claims management team has a broad client base, which includes major plcs, self-insured organisations, insurers and insurance brokers, NHS trusts and local authorities. It has established a strong practice in the areas of personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice, public liability claims and insidious diseases.

Eversheds’ entire volume business (including claims management) has a total staff of 332, or just under 9 per cent of the total staff, and contributed £32.56m – 11 per cent – to total turnover last year.
Slack will undertake a roving business development role based out of Eversheds’ Cardiff office.

“Shaun’s contributed a lot to the growth of the business. We wish him well. One Liability Services will continue to thrive. It’s grown to a point where it can stand and succeed without him,” said a Hill Dickinson spokesperson.
