Eversheds lawyer goes in-house at DHL couriers

International courier company DHL is boosting its in-house legal team by appointing Eversheds associate Ian Carey.

Carey will join DHL's head office in Brussels as aviation counsel tomorrow.

His appointment will bring the in-house legal count to eight.

Previously at Eversheds, Carey worked in the banking department, specialising in aviation.

He will replace Richard Churchill-Coleman who left DHL two months ago to take up a senior legal position at Britannia Airways.

A spokeswoman for Eversheds says: "We are hoping to get work through Ian. We never discourage people from moving to corporate."

According to Geoffrey Cruikshanks, the director of legal and regulatory affairs at DHL: "We have enlarged the role to include general finance. He is joining a rapidly expanding company and, obviously, aviation is also a strong area of interest for the company."

A spokeswoman at Eversheds says that the firm's office in Brussels will be assisting Carey in moving to the area.

"Ian came to us from Australia. Because he is not used to Europe the firm is helping him to settle in Brussels," she says.
