National firm appoints former European official Jim Currie as consultant
Eversheds has appointed the European Commission's former director-general for the environment as a consultant. Jim Currie will advise the firm on EU, international trade, energy and corporate governance issues. Currently a board director of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, Currie served a 14 year period at the European Commission until October 2001. His posts included Chef de Cabinet to Vice-President Sir Leon Brittan and director-general first for customs and indirect taxation and then for environment and nuclear safety. However, he caused controversy by accepting a non-executive job at British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) nearly two years ago. Potential conflicts of interest prompted the Commission to intervene, delaying Currie's start date with BNFL for a year after he left his Brussels-based job.
