Eversheds is expanding into Hamburg with a base in the city set to open in the autumn.
The new office will focus on corporate and will complement Eversheds’ existing presence in Munich, which it has had since tying up with a boutique in 2005.
Munich partners Carola Rathke and Sebastian Zeeck, both corporate and finance specialists, will spend the next four months establishing the new office.
In a statement, Matthias Heisse, head of Eversheds Germany, said: “The Munich office has gone from strength to strength over the years and as a result we’ve seen demand for our award-winning services increase.
“The new office in Hamburg will enable us to not only provide seamless corporate legal solutions across Germany but will also give us and our colleagues around the world the geographic spread in Germany to provide local delivery of global legal solutions.”
According to Heisse the firm is not planning to make any lateral hires but the firm will move associates from Munich to Hamburg to staff the new office.
The new office will be Eversheds’ 48th across the world, and closely follows the firm’s expansion into the Middle East through a merger with regional consortium KSLG (25 May 2011) and a new tie-up with Nicea Abogados in Spain (16 May 2011).
Earlier this year, Bird & Bird also launched an office in Hamburg after poaching a six-lawyer team from Recore Business Lawyers (19 April 2011).
