Eversheds is overhauling its construction practice in a bid to prevent rival firms encroaching on its traditional stronghold.
Construction North will be established in coming months. It will be headed by former Newcastle managing partner and construction lawyer Nigel Robson and will be based in its Leeds office.
Eversheds is one of the leading construction practices in the North East. But last year, construction litigator and equity partner Simon Palmer left the Leeds office for regional rival Hammond Suddards (The Lawyer, 20 September). And leading construction lawyer Mary Herbert has left the Newcastle office for Eversheds' Cardiff practice.
Palmer's departure was followed by a management shake-up at the Newcastle office, during which Robson stepped down as managing partner.
But Robson says that the firm is committed to developing the practice. He says: "My task and future life will be building construction law.
"I am completely committed to the North East. My other role will be to build up Eversheds' construction profile."
The firm also aims to increase the construction group's international profile.
