Eversheds has officially announced the merger of its North East office with Newcastle firm Wilkinson Maughan.
Under the merger, revealed in The Lawyer last week, the new firm is staffed by 47 partners - 23 from Eversheds and 24 from Wilkinsons - making it the biggest firm in the North East and putting it ahead of Dickinson Dees.
The firm began operating under the Eversheds name last week with Nigel Robson, formerly the managing partner of Eversheds North East, as managing partner. Wilkinsons' former managing partner Ronald Bradbeer is joint senior partner with Chris Hilton of Eversheds.
Robson said that while the firm may now be the biggest in terms of partners, he wanted to make sure it would match this in levels of business. He said: "Many local clients look to national firms to deal with their national business. We hope that by combining the national benefits of Eversheds with the local expertise of Wilkinsons we can win more of these clients."
