Swedish firm Magnusson has launched an office in Estonia with the hire of partners Siim Mägi and Indrek Veso, who join from local firms Glikman & Partners and Veso & Partners (28 March 2012).
Dutch firm Houthoff Buruma has opened a New York office with the hire of former Allen & Overy partner Helena Sprenger (11 April 2012). The firm also promoted IP lawyer Thomas de Weerd as partner, effective 1 April. De Weerd is based in Amsterdam.
Simmons & Simmons has appointed Rogier Schellaars as a dispute resolution partner in Amsterdam. Schellaars will join the firm on 1 May from De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. He specialises in international commercial arbitration and litigation.
Jones Day has hired Van Bael & Bellis partner Renato Antonini in a boost to its Brussels trade practice (30 March 2012).
CMS DeBacker Luxembourg has promoted head of tax Diogo Duarte de Oliveira to partner, effective from 1 April. De Oliveira joined the firm in February 2011 and focuses on international corporate tax and M&A work.
Central & Eastern Europe
Aleksandra Minkowicz-Flanek has joined Salans as a counsel in Warsaw from PricewaterhouseCoopers’ legal arm, where she was also counsel. Minkowicz-Flanek will head up Salans’ five-strong Polish employment team.
US-qualified attorney Robert Wachter has joined Austrian firm Graf & Pitkowitz from Korean firm Yulchon, where he was a partner. Wachter has joined Graf & Pitkowitz’s international arbitration group.
De Pardieu Brocas Maffei has hired private equity specialist Maxime Dequesne from SJ Berwin, where he was a senior associate. Dequesne joins De Pardieu as counsel.
French firm Adamas has hired commercial lawyers Dominique Doise and Valérie Mayer as partners. The duo previously worked together at boutique firm Alérion, founded by Doise in 2003.
The Frankfurt employment team of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has quit the firm to set up a boutique practice (3 April 2012). Frankfurt partners Ulrike Schweibert and Jochen Leßmann are launching employment firm Schweibert Leßmann & Partner on 1 May.
The magic circle firm has also announced the appointment of Hamburg-based partner Johannes Conradi as its new global real estate head (5 April 2012).
Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira has promoted five lawyers - Pedro Blázquez, Ramón Gil, Alfredo Lafita, Alfonso Reina and Gonzalo Susueta - to partner, while announcing a restructure of its partnership which will see all partners joining the equity (26 March 2012).
Ashurst has hired Pavia e Ansaldo private equity partner Alessandro Giovannelli as its new Italian head of corporate, along with his team (12 April 2012).
TMT firm Portolano Colella Cavallo has announced the departure of name partner Domenico Colella. By mutual consent, Colella left the firm to pursue his own interests on 10 April. The firm is now known as Portolano Cavallo Studio Legale.

US firm Dechert has raided rival Chadbourne & Parke to launch an office in Kazakhstan (5 April 2012). Dechert has hired Chadbourne’s Almaty managing partner Kenneth Mack along with 10 other lawyers to open in the country.
