European moves: 4 February 2016

All the latest partner hires and other appointments within Continental European firms and offices.


King & Wood Mallesons has expanded its European corporate practice with the hire of partner Anthony Van der Hauwaert. He joins the firm from Squire Patton Boggs, where he worked for 14 years and was head of the firm’s Belgium practice.

Luxembourg firm Elvinger Hoss Prussen has announced the hire of Stéphanie Pautot as a counsel. Pautot joins from Luxembourg firm Roemers Trapp Pautot and focuses on private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law.

Dutch firm AKD has appointed Mark Kater as its chief operating officer (COO) and chief finance officer as of 1 February 2016. Kater will also be a member of AKD’s executive board. Kater joins from Dutch-Caribbean firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, where he was commercial director. He succeeds Mat Bovy who was COO at AKD for 20 years.

Peeters Advocaten has promoted Griet Verfaillie to partner as of 1 January. Verfaillie heads the firm’s IP/IT & commercial practice group and joined the firm in 2009.

Belgian firm Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick has announced that litigation partner Joe Sepulchre has joined German packaging company Deufol as international general counsel.

K&L Gates has hired Fatiha El-Boubsi as a partner in its corporate and M&A practice in Brussels. El-Boubsi joins from Holland van Gijzen, where she was a lawyer.

Central & Eastern Europe

Schoenherr has hired Pawel Kulak as a lawyer in its Warsaw office. Prior to joining Schoenherr, Kulak served for nearly sixteen years at UOKiK, Poland’s state authority for antitrust and competition protection matters.

Austrian firm Binder Grösswang has hired Stefan Frank as an attorney at law as of January 2016. He joined from Raiffeisen-Holding NÖ-W where he operated as an expert in banking supervision law.

Polish firm Kochanski Zieba & Partners has promoted Paweł Borowski to its partnership and as head of the firm’s pharmaceutical, healthcare and life sciences practice. Meanwhile Aleksandra Polak, Klaudia Szymańska, Mateusz Ostrowski, Anna Zięba, and Sylwia Uziębło-Kowalska have all been promoted to the position of senior associate.


Dechert has announced that Mélanie Thill-Tayara has joined the firm as a partner in the antitrust and competition practice in Paris. She was most recently a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright.

French firm LMBE has hired Claire Rossignol as a partner. Rossignol is a litigation specialist who was previously a partner at Desfilis & McGowan.

Racine has hired two lawyers for its Bordeaux office. Healthcare specialist Anne-Laure Dagorne joins from local firm Lacoeuilhe while newly-qualified Hélène Nicolas joins the public law team.

Kramer Levin has elected Paris-based lawyers Fabienne Arrighi and Hugues Bouchetemble to its partnership. Arrighi will be head of the firm’s French employment practice and Bouchetemble is part of its banking and finance practice.


Latham & Watkins has hired Linklaters private equity partner Rainer Traugott in a boost to its Munich office. Traugott will strengthen Latham’s large-cap private equity offering.

Hogan Lovells has hired M&A partner Birgit Reese for its Düsseldorf office. Reese joins from Allen & Overy in Dusseldorf where she has been a partner since 2008.

Pinsent Masons has hired a three-partner team from KPMG to launch its second German office in Düsseldorf in February. The hires include KPMG’s energy and major projects head Thorsten Volz who will lead Pinsents’ German energy practice. He will become head of the firm’s Düsseldorf office.

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek has hired Jens-Hendrik Janzen as an equity partner in Stuttgart. Janzen joins from Menold Bezler Rechtsanwälte, where he focused on corporate and litigation.

Osborne Clarke has strengthened its finance practice with the hire of Antje Günther as a partner. Günther joins the Cologne office from Norton Rose Fulbright in Frankfurt, where she has been a partner since 2011.


Portuguese firm PLMJ has announced the appointment of 12 managing associates and seven senior associates.


Kennedys has expanded its Dublin office with the appointment of partner Daniel Scanlon into its insurance and litigation practice. Scanlon joins from Maples & Calder where he was a senior associate.

Matheson has announced that Tara Doyle has been appointed as the new head of the firm’s asset management and investment funds group. Doyle succeeds Michael Jackson, who became managing partner on 1 January 2016.


Dentons has hired 11 lawyers for its recently-established Milan office. Partner Sara Biglieri will lead the litigation and arbitration group and partner Andrea Fiorelli will be head of tax. Biglieri was previously a partner at Studio Rucellai & Raffaelli and joins Dentons with a team of six professionals: senior counsels Luca De Bendetto, Andrea Pupeschi, and Francesca Prati, senior associate Elena Bassan, associate Roberta De Sena and trainee Ferdinando Bonofiglio. Meanwhile Fiorelli was head of the tax department at Norton Rose Fulbright and joins Dentons with a team of three lawyers: senior associate Maria Paola Serra, associate Luca Guidotti and junior associate Matteo Chinaglia.

Bonelli Erede Pappalardo has hired Allen & Overy’s Italian senior partner Massimiliano Danusso and eight other lawyers in a boost to its City banking offering. Danusso will take over as managing partner of Bonelli’s London office from Andrea Carta Mantiglia and the team will be headquartered in London, although some lawyers will be based in Milan and Rome.

The firm has also appointed Luca Perfetti as a partner. Perfetti has headed the firm’s administrative law department, which comprises 23 professionals, since he joined the firm in November 2015 from his own boutique.


Nordic firm Roschier has elected Björn Johansson Heigis, Erik Ficks and Aapo Saarikivi as partners of the firm in the areas of intellectual property & technology and dispute resolution. Their appointments are effective 1 June, 2016.

Bird & Bird has hired Nimrod Badur as a real estate partner, based in Stockholm. Badur joins from Finnish firm Hannes Snellman, where he was a senior associate.

Hannes Snellman has appointed Elisabeth Vestin as a specialist partner and head of IP & TMT in Stockholm, effective 1 January 2016.


Froriep has appointed Zurich-based lawyers Samuel Ramp, Pascal Richard and Sabina Schellenberg and Geneva-based Dmitry Pentsov as partners. Froriep has also hired Peter Sester as a consultant in Zurich. Sester is director of the Institute of Public Finance, Fiscal Law and Law & Economics at the University of St. Gallen and was previously a consultant for 13 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Frankfurt.

Russia & CIS

Kinstellar has hired Mukhit Yeleuov as a partner in Almaty. Yeleuov joins from Dechert, where he was a national partner. At Kinstellar, his main focus will be to develop the firm’s dispute resolution capabilities in Kazakhstan.
