European moves: 10 July 2014

All the latest partner hires and other appointments within Continental European firms and offices.

Benelux

Dechert has hired Loyens & Loeff partner Johan Terblanche as a partner in its Luxembourg financial services practice. He advises managers and investors of investment funds, focusing specifically on alternative funds.

NautaDutilh has appointed Erik Geerling as chair of its management board. Geerling replaces Michaëla Ulrici, who is returning to full-time fee-earning after four years. He has sat on the board since 2010. Meanwhile corporate partner Gaike Dalenoord has been appointed to the board. He is also chair of the firm’s international strategy committee.

Stibbe has promoted corporate senior associate Claire-Marie Darnand to partner in Luxembourg. Darnand specialises in corporate and finance law relating to private equity, holding and financing activities, joint ventures and M&A.

Belgian firm Laga is merging with tax and private client boutique Greenille. The merger, which takes effect on 1 September, sees over 30 lawyers and staff join Laga. The merger does not affect Greenille’s Dutch offices, which will continue to operate independently under a new name.

France

US firm Foley Hoag has added its sixth partner in Paris with the hire of White & Case arbitrator Philippe Sarrailhé (2 July 2014). Sarrailhé focuses on international commercial arbitration, advising companies in sectors including automotive, aeronautics, chemicals, technology and hospitality on disputes around the world.

Proskauer has recruited Nicolas Léger as international counsel in its Paris employment team. Léger was previously a partner at Lexcom.

Germany

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has picked up Taylor Wessing competition partner Michael Dietrich to bring the number of partners in Germany to six (7 July 2014). Dietrich is the first competition partner to join HSF in Germany following the firm’s launch there in April last year.

Ireland

Mason Hayes & Curran has appointed Michael Doran as a partner in the real estate team, expanding the team to six partners. Doran was previously a partner at WhitneyMoore.

Italy

Bonelli Erede Pappalardo has promoted two lawyers to its partnership. Criminal lawyer Francesco Sbisà joined the firm in April 2014, bringing with him a new Criminal Law capability and practice, while corporate specialist Elisabetta Varni has worked at the firm since 2001.

Nordics

Swedish firm Mannheimer Swartling has appointed Emma Ihre as its first-ever head of sustainability. Ihre will work with adding value in the firm’s service offering to clients and be responsible for further developing the firm’s sustainability initiatives across the organisation. She currently serves as head of sustainable business at the Swedish Ministry of Finance.
Russia

Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners has made a number of promotions in its Moscow office. Real estate and construction lawyer Elena Gavrilina has been made partner, litigators Alexander Vaneev and Vera Rikhterman have become counsels and competition lawyer Elena Kazak is promoted to senior associate.

Turkey

Bird & Bird has further expanded its horizons with the announcement of a cooperation agreement with Turkish firm BTS & Partners (3 July 2014). The three-partner Istanbul firm focuses on technology and media.

Kinstellar has appointed Tolga Semiz as a partner and Ozlem Ozgur Arslan as a managing associate in Turkey. Semiz joins from his own practice and will head Kinstellar’s Istanbul litigation team, while Arslan will be head of the Turkish IP team. She was previously executive director of Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property in Turkey and head of the IP department at Aksan Law Firm.
