European judge speaks at TSG event

JUDGE David Edward of the European Court of Justice has been signed to speak at this year's Trainee Solicitors' Group Project Europe day.

To be held at the Law Society on 8 July, the event will include discussion on media and competition law, advice for taking cases to Luxembourg and information on developments in EU intellectual property law.

Jill Gelineau, a partner in US firm Schwabe Williamson Wyatt, will compare US and European environmental law and Lord Clinton-Davis will discuss post-Maastricht Europe.

TSG international relations officer, Lovell White Durrant trainee Dr David Taylor, says the 90 places available for the day will be open to trainees and newly-qualified solicitors from the UK and abroad.

“European law impinges on nearly every aspect of UK legal work,” says Taylor.

“A day like this raises awareness and gives people the opportunity to meet and talk with high-profile people on the international scene.”

Other speakers at the event, include Professor Henri Schermers of the European Commission on Human Rights, Paul Lasok QC, Professor Juliet Lodge of Hull University, Law Society president Charles Elly, Michael Golding of Lovell White Durrant, Trevor Brown of Clifford Chance and Alastair Fitzsimmons of Wedlake Bell.
