General counsel Ian Haslegrave said: "We are doing an overall panel review, the first one we did was the corporate review. The next part of the panel review is now for a day-to-day law firm. The second review would take place in mid-October."
Haslegrave said that Linklaters' geographical spread, particularly the Asia practice, helped close the deal.
"I'm personally going out to Asia for two weeks. We're reviewing processes and standard contracts. It made sense to go with Linklaters," said Haslegrave.
He added: "You also go with the feel of the people that present, Linklaters was very knowledgeable about our international business."
Linklaters corporate partner Roger Barron will head up the relationship, along with managing associate Aisling Zarraga. Electrocomponents is listed on the FTSE 250 with a market capitalisation of £1.2bn.
