This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.

Seriously though why do so many students think that carving out a legal career in the City is the be all and end all? With some careful research you’ll soon discover that there are plenty of reputable commercial law firms handing top quality legal work outside the Square Mile and indeed beyond London. For instance, if you want to find out more about training in Bristol then check out the Spring 2010 issue of Lawyer 2B magazine (assuming you haven’t done so already).
The London firms may pay the best salaries but don’t forget that the UK’s beloved capital is also one of the most expensive cities in the world meaning that you’ll have to fork out a sizeable sum each month for your rent and Oyster Card. Talking of which the commute isn’t much fun either with some people spending at least an hour on the tube each morning. In stark contrast should you decide to train in Bristol chances are that you’ll be able to walk to work.
Anyway, I’m going to sign off now because you’ve guessed it - I’ve got my 90 minute commute home.
