Perfecting your training contract application forms and getting them in on time are just some of the hurdles youll need to overcome in your pursuit of a dream career in law. The biggest obstacle, however, is the interview and assessment day.

Assessment days are a common feature adopted by law firms to select trainee solicitors and are usually made up of a combination of written tests, group exercises and presentations. On a lighter note, I recommend that when youre offered a drink at an interview its best to stick with still water. One poor candidate decided to go for the fizzy option and spent the whole interview burping. Also, dont be afraid to grab a biscuit because personally I think it shows youve got some cojones. Indeed, one partner at a large City firm said he would offer a training contract to the first candidate who had the confidence to eat a biscuit during an interview. But whatever you do, dont dunk them in your tea thats just asking for trouble.
