Edey's Sunday trading case

Despite Sunday trading law changes the High Court has paved the way for self-styled anti Sunday trading campaigner, Roy Edey, a 68-year-old retired solicitor's clerk, to launch private prosecutions against Woolworths, Superdrug and Tesco for alleged Shops Act breaches. The case is to come on as soon as possible, but in giving Edey leave to bring the prosecutions Lady Justice Butler-Sloss and Mr Justice McPherson warned him that in the light of the recent changes the prosecutions, might not be regarded particularly seriously by the courts.
