EBay legal director steps down to take up global responsibility at Skype Technologies

eBay UK’s noted director of legal affairs Robert Miller has left the internet auctioneer to take on the global general counsel role of revolutionary internet communications company Skype Technologies.

Luxembourg-based Skype was acquired by eBay’s global operation in September 2005 for $2.6bn (£1.5bn), with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom and Clifford Chance taking the lead roles on that transaction.

Miller, who joined eBay UK in 2001 from BT, starts his new post today (6 February). He will have global responsibility for the company’s legal and regulatory affairs. It is understood Miller will remain in London, tasked with building the company’s legal team from its current staff of four.

Skype is expected to work closely with US and European regulatory agencies as it develops its internet-based telecommunications service.

eBay is now searching for a new UK director of legal to head its team of six, which includes a public affairs role, creating one of the most highly sought-after internet sector general counsel vacancies.
