Competition increased in East Anglia recently when two major firms opened offices there.
In March, Charles Russell launched a Cambridge office just 18 months after opening its Oxford outpost, making it the first City firm in both Varsity cities.
As well as advising on corporate law, the firm is going head-to-head with London-based charity specialist Stone King, which opened a Cambridge office in the same month to provide advice to university colleges, schools and local charities.
The biggest university client, however, remains with East Anglia stalwart Eversheds. In November, the firm was chosen, along with Newcastle's Watson Burton, as the first adviser to the newly-incorporated Russell Group of 20 top universities.
