The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) has appointed Peter Kleinschmidt to succeed general counsel Diane de Saint Victor.
Kleinschmidt was promoted after De Saint Victor quit for Switzerland-based power and automation technologies company ABB.
Kleinschmidt, who joined EADS from Airbus in 2005, will lead a team of 120 lawyers in Paris and Munich, as well as overseeing EADS's worldwide legal function.
Kleinschmidt previously worked as the senior vice-president for the office of the company's chief operating officer for finance.
Last October Clifford Chance acted for EADS on the e2.75bn (£1.85bn) purchase of BAE Systems' 20 per cent stake in Airbus SAS.
EADS is the prime contractor for the Ariane launcher and generated a revenue of €34.2bn (£22.88bn) in 2005.
