Weightmans team in a month" />A seven-strong team is to leave Weightmans for DWF, joining six insurance partners that announced last month they were making an identical move.
Five associates, a consultant and an executive from the public sector and insurance teams are to leave Weightmans London office within the next three months.
Weightmans managing partner Patrick Gaul (pictured) said: “We are disappointed with this development given our recent investment in London and there is no denying this is a setback and will come at a cost.
“But we anticipated that there would be further departures following the [six] partners. It would have been naive to think otherwise so we have been working to bring people into the office, internal transfers and lateral hires, and we have made considerable progress on both fronts.”
Weightmans will be making five internal transfers to London before the departures take place. Three of these will be from its Liverpool office, two from Birmingham.
Gaul added: “We will be announcing at least one lateral hire shortly. We estimate that we will have 12 new people in place by the end of this financial year.”
Last month TheLawyer.com (22 September 2008) reported that six insurance partners including London office head Mark Whittaker would be leaving for DWF’s new London office.
The other partners are Innes Ebert, Perry Hill, Seema Jobanputra, Dan Mitchell and Carys Oatham, all of whom specialise in defendant personal injury and property recovery work.
