Timothy Dutton QC of Fountain Court chambers has been elected to take over as chair of the Bar Council when Geoffrey Vos QC stands down.
Dutton, who is the current vice chair at the Council, will take up his post on 1 January 2008.
Dutton, who was called to the bar in 1979, took silk in 1998 and sits as a recorder, was instrumental at establishing the Advocacy Training Council and was the leader of the South Eastern circuit from 2004 until last year.
Vos will stand down next year as chairs of the Council only take on the role for a year.
