Anglo-Scots firm HBJ Gateley Wareing is to open an office in Dubai, the firm's first base outside the UK.
Pending Dubai regulatory approval, the new office will open in September and focus on construction and shipping law.
The firm intends to build a two-partner, two-associate team within 12 months. Two associates from the UK construction team will be sent out to the new base, which is also seeking an office head with established Middle East credentials.
The Dubai launch is the latest in a string of expansionary moves by the firm in recent months, including two mergers this year alone.
As first reported by The Lawyer (21 May), the firm merged with Glasgow and Edinburgh firm Boyds Solicitors two months ago and secured its first foothold in the City via a tie-up with London shipping boutique Shaw and Croft the month before that, as first reported on www.thelawyer.com (4 April).
