Philadelphia-based Duane Morris is planning to open an office in Singapore in the next 12 months in a move that will give the firm its second international office.
This is the firm's first move into the Asian market and marks its growing ambitions at home and abroad.
The office will be led by Eduardo Ramos-Gomez, the New York-based corporate and international partner who is the former Mexican ambassador to Singapore, Brunei and Burma. The firm is looking for two partners to join him in the venture.
While Beijing and Shanghai are growing in importance, Singapore remains second only to Hong Kong as an Asian trade hub.
Duane Morris's other international office is in London. It is led by partners Alex Geisler, who practises commercial litigation, and Susan Laws, who handles finance, M&A, venture capital and computer law. It has five other partners, two counsels and an associate.
