US firm Drinker Biddle & Reath has established a transatlantic strategic alliance with Murgitroyd & Co, a Scottish patent and trademark firm
Drinker Biddle is a Philadelphia-based full service firm with 425 attorneys and eight US offices. Intellectual property (IP) work is a growing practice area for the firm, which last year acquired US IP boutique Seidel Gonda Lavorgna & Monaco. Murgitroyd is a Glasgow-based patent and trademark practice that also has offices in Aberdeen, Belfast, Dublin, London, Munich and Nice. Drinker Biddle chairman James Sweet said: "The excellent relationship we've enjoyed with Murgitroyd for the past two years has become official." The alliance will mean an increase in referrals for both firms. Murgitroyd chief executive Keith Young said that in the past, only around 50 per cent of the firm's referrals to US firms had gone to Drinker Biddle. Young said that despite the alliance there was no likelihood of a future merger.
