Doughty Street goes national with Bristol launch

Civil liberties set Doughty Street Chambers will open in Bristol after Old Square Chambers’ barrister Daniel Bennett defected to the set.

The announcement comes just days after the set unveiled plans to open in Manchester with four former Garden Court North barristers (The Lawyer, 27 August).

Bennett, who specialises in clinical negligence and personal injury work, will be based full time in the Bristol office, which will also be used as a hub by Doughty Street barristers.

Practice director Robin Jackson said the set aimed to grow its Bristol presence by recruiting local lawyers. “In three to six months time we could have some more barristers based there,” Simpson said.

In addition the set is recruiting at the junior end.

“This move fits in with our clinical negligence and personal injury team,” Jackson said. “It is a strong area of ours and one we’ve wanted to grow.

Deputy Head of Chambers, Heather Williams QC, said the move was “part of our strategy to be a truly national”.
