Dorsey steamrollers rivals for Indian IPOs

Dorsey & Whitney has emerged as one of the leading international firms for Indian IPOs, having advised on six floats in the last year.

On three of the deals the firm advised the companies and on the others the banks.

Other US firms that have picked up major Indian capital markets work in recent months include Jones Day, which featured on four floats, and Davis Polk & Wardwell, which featured on one, according to a survey by Asian Legal Business magazine.

Dorsey’s profile in the Indian market was kickstarted last year by the arrival of John Chrisman, a former partner at Coudert Brothers, who joined the firm in October 2005.

Leading local firms for capital markets included Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, which advised on eight deals, three more than J Sagar Associates and Crawford Bayley & Co.
