Dorsey & Whitney has promoted four London-based lawyers to the partnership out of a total of 16 worldwide.
The move comes after Dorsey’s London office lost 40 per cent of its associates during the last three months of 2005 amid much talk in the associate ranks about a lack of partnership opportunities.
The five promotions should go some way towards addressing those fears. Disputes lawyers Jean-Pierre Douglas-Henry, Liesl Fichardt and Mitchell Moss have bagged promotions as has corporate associate Alexander Paterson.
Dorsey had made up just two London-based associates in the past three years, while bringing in six partners from other firms. One of the new partners, Douglas-Henry, joined as a senior associate from Slaughter and May in 2005.
The firm has also promoted former Taylor Wessing disputes head Nicholas Burkill to the equity partnership. Burkill joined the firm in 2005.
Dorsey’s London managing partner Paul Klaas was unavailable for comment.
