US firm Dorsey & Whitney has merged with Silicon Valley intellectual property (IP) specialists Flehr Hohbach Test Albritton & Herbert
The combined firm will operate under the Dorsey name and takes the total number of IP practitioners to 150. Ian Craig, head of IP at Dorsey's London office, said: "Dorsey & Whitney already has offices through the US, but we feel that it's important to provide clients with on-the-ground resource and expertise in Northern California." He added: "Our UK/EU clients, and in particular ones in high-tech businesses, have an interest in Silicon Valley. This is the case even after the downturn in some areas of high-tech business. This expansion shows that Dorsey & Whitney continues to take the high-tech market seriously." IP became a growth practice in London when Craig's team from Hewitson Becke + Shaw joined Dorsey last year. The London office's strategy is to focus on UK biotech and high-tech clients and servicing similar US clients with interests in Europe.
