Don't ask, don't get

Jonathan Fox is very happy in his new position as chief executive of Collyer-Bristow, but the firm is not the only one after his services.`Fox, who joined from DLA where he was client relationship manager for Barclays, was also offered a position at Marks & Spencer, but Fox will not even shop there, let alone take a job.`Why? Well, in his student days Fox took a Saturday job at M&S, working on the cash till. While he is sure it has changed since, during his time the management never asked him whether he could offer anything extra.`Had they bothered to ask, Fox was studying for an advanced level marketing MBA specialising in retail and would surely have been able to make a valuable contribution.`”I don't run this place in the same way,” he says. But he still appreciates the experience, claiming to have learned more during his tenure as a cashier than three years at university.
