DLA has beaten off competition from three other firms to become the sole adviser for employment work to Telewest Communications.
The firm won the work in a competitive tender process against Simmons & Simmons, Lewis Silkin and Halliwell Landau. HR partner Peter Thompson led the team, assisted by senior associate Rachel Jones.
Under the new agreement, DLA will advise on all employment aspects ranging from representation at tribunal to policies, contracts, giving advice via a helpline and providing training for the company's management.
Prior to DLA's appointment Telewest had a panel of 12 law firms, but it decided to consolidate its purchasing power and cut the other 11.
DLA's relationship with Telewest started seven months ago, when a contact moved from Tesco to Telewest and brought the relationship with him.
Thompson said: "We're delighted to be working with Telewest at an extremely exciting time in their development. We believe we're uniquely placed to support their programme of cultural change and to provide a comprehensive employment service to a geographically-spread national client."
DLA's HR practice advises a number of blue chip clients including Tesco, Selfridges and Jacobs Bakery.
