  • DLA associate and partner departures are missing

The article paints a false picture of DLA in the Middle East - it fails to identify the quite ridiculously high levels of associates coming in, looking and then running as fast as possible away from the DLA offices in the region - in one case the asspciate didn't last more than a week! No matter how much spin, the associates and partners know what's really going on ....the truth is out there..

  • DLA are a joke in Dubai

They're never visible on any deals; they sack lawyers if they don't start billing on the first day they arrive in the office and God only knows how their Dubai office is making any money. They're not known as the Enron of the legal world for nothing!

  • life is nasty brutish and short unless you're an equity partner at DLA

Having endured a few years at DLA, the comparison with enron is a tad unfair but not difficult to see why other lawyers feel that way about DLA. DLA is there for its equity partners. Life for others is nasty, brutish and (unless you're one of the small ingratiate minority who make equity) short. It's the culture of the firm for better or for worse.

  • DLA or law firms in general?

To the original poster or anyone in the know - is this "unseen" movement of lawyers in and out of Dubai common to all firms setting up an office in the region (i.e. more of a general trend) or is it specific to DLA? If the former, what are the reasons for this?

  • DLA or law firms in general?

The "unseen" movement is specific to DLA. Other firms in the region are far more committed to their employees. In these uncertain times, don't be surprised if you hear of a mass exodus from their office soon!!
