DLA Piper has signalled its intention to spread throughout Africa in 2007 by extending its network of associated firms in a link-up with a Ghana-based firm.
The exclusive agreement with Reindorf Chambers, effective from 15 January, makes the firm based in Ghana's capital Accra the fifth African firm to join the DLA Piper Group.
Six-lawyer Reindorf has four partners focusing on project and trade finance, mining and natural resources and corporate commercial law. The firm has previously worked with DLA Piper on trade negotiations and a major oil and infrastructure project.
The DLA Piper Group is an association of firms that shares the DLA Piper branding and access to the global network, but which remain financially independent.
Reindorf's clients include mining houses and international banks. The firm targets domestic clients and international inbound investment.
DLA Piper Africa group head Charles Morrison said: "I'm very pleased that we've been able to bring lawyers of such high standing and reputation within their own jurisdiction into the expanding DLA Piper Group."
Reindorf joins firms in Egypt, South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania as African members of the DLA Piper Group. The firm also has non-exclusive associations with firms in Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria.
