DLA Piper has scored a massive coup for its Asian banking practice with the hire of Bank of China’s (BoC) head of legal Andrew Wang.
The hire of BoC’s Wang follows similar in-house lateral raids in Asia, with the firm hiring Henry Wang, former general counsel of Shanghai GM Automotive, earlier this year.
DLA’s Asia managing partner Nick Seddon said the firm had been targeting growth in its banking practice, and was also looking to grow its capital markets capability.
The firm also hired former Motorola Asia Pacific general counsel and Singapore president Jeffrey Tan into its Singapore office in August.
BoC, the nation’s second-largest bank, floated in an $11bn IPO in June. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Sullivan & Cromwell advised BoC on the float, while Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling advised the underwriters.
