Denton Wilde Sapte (DWS) asset finance partner Stephen Marais is set to join DLA Piper as a partner in the finance and projects group.
Marais, who joined Dentons in 1996 and made partner in 2005, focuses on the shipping, aircraft and film sectors, acting for banks and export credit agencies in a range of UK and cross-border financings.
His practice includes negotiating contracts and lease agreements and Marais has experience advising on settlement arrangements following borrower insolvency. Most recently he advised a number of banks on a financial deal utilising a Murabaha Islamic finance structure.
At DLA Piper Marais will work alongside UK head of finance and projects Michael Burton. According to Burton, Marais' experience of the shipping sector made him particularly attractive to the firm as it is an area it is keen to expand into.
He added that Marais' relationships with UK banks was also an advantage.
