DLA Piper loses Bergen office to local firm" />DLA Piper has lost one of its Norwegian offices following the departure of its Bergen lawyers to a local firm.
The 30-lawyer branch split from the firm "in recognition of the difference between the Bergen and Oslo practices", according to a statement from DLA Piper, and will join Steenstrup Stordrange.
Real estate partner Espen Moe (pictured) said: "The Oslo and Bergen offices have developed very differently in recent years and it was clear that both would benefit from a separation in order to develop their respective clients more effectively."
The demerger leaves DLA Piper with an Oslo office as its sole remaining outpost in Norway. The office employs 70 lawyers and 23 partners.
DLA Piper merged with DLA Nordic in September 2006 having formed an exclusive alliance five years earlier. It was the first Norwegian practice to fully integrate with an international firm.
Moe said the move would allow DLA Piper to focus on its Oslo practice and maintained the split had been amicable.
