DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary's Birmingham office has hired a new head for its insurance claims fraud unit.
Dipak Lad has joined from Liverpool firm Silverbeck Rymer's Manchester office, where he managed the fraud team and was the fraud technical manager. Lad was one of the first to develop a motor fraud specialism, which covers incidents such as staged accidents and phantom passenger claims.
He also helped in the dev-elopment of a defence for low-level speed impact claims and has worked with the Associ-ation of British Insurers to tackle organised fraud rings.
Lad will lead the four-lawyer insurance claims fraud unit with the aim of raising its profile. "DLA Piper has one of the largest insurance practices in Europe, but the fraud unit doesn't have as much exposure as it should," he said. He also plans to develop the firm's relationship with special interest groups.
